Astrom / Zimmer & Tereszkiewicz is a Zürich-based design studio.
In 2011, Anthon Astrom and Lukas Zimmer founded Astrom / Zimmer, and in the same year in a different corner of Zürich, Fabrice Tereszkiewicz launched his 51st Floor Studio. In 2020 the two companies merged to form one unit – Astrom / Zimmer & Tereszkiewicz.
Our main focus is on applications and frameworks for the recontextualisation of information, and alternative methods for curating and narrating digital content, often in projects that bring print and pixels together in new ways
Together with a wide range of universities, businesses and cultural institutions, we work with both objects and information of great varieties, and always try to bend the rules just enough to provoke new possible questions, hopefully leading to new insights.
While most of our projects are commercial assignments, learning is still an essential part of the A/Z&T practice; we develop things we call "Interactive Ideas", built solely to spark and animate internal or external discussions around design and communication practices and cultural/social contracts; we hold workshops and lectures for and with students and others, convinced that constant input, challenges and friction is key in order to move forward.
Such workshops and/or lectures have been held at Triple Canopy and METRO (New York, US), MICA (Baltimore, US), ESAD (Valence, FR), the Swissnex Institute and the Books in Browsers Conference (San Francisco, US), University of Vienna (AT), Zürich University of the Arts (CH), écal (Lausanne, CH), Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (CH), Rotterdam University (NL), Hyperwerk (CH), Google SP-AN Conference (FIN) and many other locations.
Over the years, our work has among other things been acknowledged with two Swiss Federal Design Awards, Best of Swiss Web, Swiss Design Prize and Hochparterre's "die Besten" nominations.
